In 2025 you may have heard pop songs by singer Benson Boone including Beautiful Things and Mystical Magical, which made their rounds on the internet. These songs became memes and people started to take note of Benson Boone by the time he performed at the VMAs wearing a blue jumpsuit. I wanted to make this outfit for my Halloween costume which includes crazy high waisted flared pants, an open long sleeve dress shirt, and accessories such as jewelry and a belt.
Shirt
I made my own sewing pattern for this costume. I made 4 iterations before I got it right.
I make all of my patterns on large sheets of drawing paper-- double checking that all of the measurements line up.
I cut each piece out of a blue sequin fabric and out of some light blue lining. I sewed these pieces together before I assembled the garments.
This is the front fold of the shirt where I sewed the lining to the underside.
I used a polyester satin for the collar. Making the collar was the most challenging part of pattern making.
In addition to the collar, I sewed my tag along the neckline.
Once I sewed the back of the collar in, I used double-sided iron on adhesive to keep the front of the collar in place.
The last step to finishing the front was to sew the side seams that run up the sleeve.
Pants
The pattern for the pants was significantly easier. It only took me two iterations to get these right.
I, again, had to sew the lining to the sequin fabric before I could assemble.
Here is me pinning the sequin fabric and the lining together.
I have never made a zipper fly before this but it turns out it is pretty easy. I followed this video.
To make the inside of the fly, I used double-sided iron-on adhesive to make a sturdy piece of fabric.
I cut this fabric into the appropriate shape.
I sewed the piece in place along with the zipper.
The final step was to add the waistband and the belt loops.
Belt
To make the belt, I cut up this old belt that I wasn't using because it was too big on me.
I painted it using multiple coats of watered down acrylic paint.
I created this 3D model using a combination of Bambu Studio and Adobe Illustrator. I printed it on my Bambu A1 Mini.
Once the pieces were printed, I painted them. For the main buckle piece, I painted one layer of gel nail polish.
I cured the first layer of gel nail polish before painting another layer on top of it, which I did not cure right away.
With the wet gel polish, I laide down a bunch of small rhinestones that I had laying around. Once those were placed, I cured the gel. This held all of the stones in place.
After I painted and bedazzled the buckle, I glued on the back pieces. This allowed me to slide the belt through and snap the buckle in place using the belt holes.
This is what the top of the finished buckle looks like. I painted the star with regular silver nail polish.
Jewelry
I created three signet rings and one necklace pendant in Bambu Studio. I 3D printed these out.
Once printed, I painted all of the pieces with gold nail polish and a clear top coat.
This is what the final rings look like.
This is what the necklace looked like. I placed a stone in the middle while the nail polish was still wet.
