My Grandpa Kenny was always known for wearing bib overalls and was even buried in a pair when he passed away. In May of 2023, my family found out that he had terminal cancer and only a few months left to live. One of the first things I thought of when I found this out was that I wanted to make something out of his iconic overalls. My grandma gave me a few of his old pairs and asked that I make her a purse out of them, like one that she already had. I cut up the overalls following a simple pattern I made. I removed some of the pockets from elsewhere on the overalls and sewed them where I needed them on the bags. I also took some of his old flannel shirts to make linings. For my grandma's bag, I also embroidered some butterflies at her request and sewed a special pocket for her phone. I made five bags all together- one for my grandma, my mom, and three of my aunts.
