I got a bunch of shirts for really cheap from a second-hand distribution center (and one shirt that I found in the trash) that were too big for me or ugly, in my opinion. So I used their fabric to make some shorts! I first cut them up into strips and then sewed them together in an alternating pattern. Then, I made a pattern by tracing a pair of shorts I already had. I used that pattern to cut out the new striped fabric I made and then I sewed the shorts together. These were perfect for a lot of the events I worked during the summer of 2021. I worked with Orientation and Transition Experiences at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. I helped them facilitate events for the incoming students.
These are the shorts that I already had that I traced to make into a pattern.
These are the shirts that I cut up and repurposed.
This is my cat, Mittens, lying on top of the strips I cut out and was planning to iron.
This is the pinning process to sew all the strips together.
This is the underside of the fabric I created.
This is the pattern I made that I used to cut out the pieces.
This is one leg of the shorts completed.
I had some scraps, so I made a matching face mask because this was during the height of the pandemic.
This is the finished mask.
