My boyfriend's parents collect birdhouses so I decided to make them one for Christmas. I thought it would be particularly special if I modeled the birdhouse after his parent's actual house. I created the design in Adobe Illustrator and included as many little details as I could. I cut the pieces out of balsa and craft wood before I assembled and painted it.Â
Here is the illustrator file I made to laser cut all of the various components
This is the front of the house without siding
These are some of the side pieces that I cut out with 1/16" thick balsa wood
I used some of my construction background to lay the siding pieces down in a lap-siding fashion
After all of the siding was placed, I spray painted the shell of the house with an outdoor paint
I was then able to add the shutters which I had separately spray painted black. I also glued in some windows I made of acrylic
Finally, I attached and then spray painted the roof
I also entered an won a blue ribbon at the Minnesota State Fair with this bird house!
