My little brother has a mini bar at his house and I thought it would be cool to make him a custom light up sign. I spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out how to make this sign. I originally thought that I should cut out the letters and put the lights behind them so that it was backlit. I could not think of an efficient way to do this, however. When I was browsing for ideas online, a lot of LED signs use acrylic. Some signs are like whiteboards and can be drawn on with chalk markers. The chalk, then, is illuminated by an LED light source of some sort. I figuered I could probably etch the acrylic and it would give a similar effect. I also needed to find a way to hold an LED light strip against the edge of the sign. I did some guessing about the demensions and I laser cut a base out of wood.Â
