Every year, my mom buys me and my brothers ornaments that reflect an important event that happened that year. For 2023, my mom wanted something to represent my Grandpa Kenny. She asked me for ideas/help to make some ornaments for her. We thought that it would be nice to reference the Model-T Ford Truck that he recently reaquired. His family had owned this exact truck when he was growing up and he had bought it from the owners that the family sold it to decades ago. It still runs and has some really fun green and yellow paint that Grandpa Kenny and his brothers painted when they were young adults. I decided to design an ornament that featured this truck as well as a few other personal aspects from Grandpa Kenny. I had handwriting samples of his that said "Merry Christmas" and "2023" that I wanted to include in the ornament. The final design is made up of three layers that have snow-covered pine trees, the Model-T, and gold-painted text from the handwriting sample.
This is the file I made to laser cut out the three layers of the ornaments.
These are the first two layers of the ornaments after they have been cut out.
This is the back layer of the ornament.
I used these spacers in between the layers to give the ornaments a little more depth.
I used a sample of my grandpa's handwriting to create the text on the top layer. I used Adobe Illustrator to trace the handwriting so I could use it to make stencils.
Once I had the image, I made stencils using vinyl and my Cricut Maker. Once I placed them on the ornament, I used gold paint to fill them in.
This is what the top piece of the ornament looked like after I painted them with the stencils.
These are what the bottom two layers look like once I have painted them.
This is the final ornament after everything is glued together.
