My mini skeletons (Joan and Ramon Bones) sitting on their mini couch. They are wearing mini sweatshirts that I made for them.
In 2022, my friends got me two mini skeletons as a Christmas gift. They are both one foot tall and I thought they were so funny to keep around as decor. They have articulated joints, so I liked to pose them on my bookshelf every few days. One day I got the idea that I should make them a little couch to sit on. I modeled it after the couch that my roommate and I had at the time and used leftover fabric from a love seat that I reupholstered in 2021. I was able to use some of my understanding of how couches are put together from when I reupholstered the love seat to design and build this mini couch.
I created this file to laser cut the pieces for the couch frame. I cut the pieces out of 1/4" thick balsa wood and then hot-glued them together.
This is what the frame looked like when it was all assembled.
I added foam padding to the arm rests and back.
I then added some sheets of fluff as well so the skeleton's boney bodies would be comfy.
This is what the couch looks like without the cushions.
I made sewing patterns for the entire couch and then cut out the fabric accordingly.
I also had to sew and stuff three cushions. Here is a test cushion I made.
Voilà, the mini couch in its entirety. Here you can also see that the couch has feet. I 3D printed those and hot-glued them on. The couches final dimensions are 12" long, 5" deep, and 4" tall.
This is the couch that I owned at the time that I modeled the mini couch after. I scaled down the dimensions 12:1
This is the love seat that I reupholstered. I used the same fabric for the mini couch as I did for this project.
