My boyfriend, Will
Stephen Nedoroscik
For Halloween 2024, my costume was an Australian Paris Olympian which you can learn about here. It was only fitting that my boyfriend (Will) was also dressed as a viral Olympic figure. Will received a lot of comments from friends and relatives that he looked like the 2-time bronze Olympic gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik-- AKA the Pommel Horse Guy. It was an easy choice to have him go as Stephen for Halloween. For Will's costume, I made him two bronze medals and a Team USA shirt.
For the medal ribbons, I designed a fabric using Adobe Illustrator and then ordered the fabric through Spoonflower. I designed them in strips as pictured here.
Since the fabric was not double sided, I ironed two strips together back to back. I used a double sided iron-on adhesive.
Once the ribbons were ironed together, I cut them out of the fabric.
I had originally intended to 3D print the medals. However, the prints kept failing and I ran out of time to make a new file. Luckily, I was able to use some scraps of the failed prints which are pictured here. In order to create the texture of the medals, I used leftover birdhouse scraps.
I laid the balsa scraps around the center piece on top of the 3D prints. I glued them into place and then removed the center piece.
Once the glue dried, I cut all of the excess balsa scraps off around the perimeter of the medal.
I spray painted the medal pieces using a copper metallic spray paint.Â
I painted the center pieces using gray nail polish, metallic silver acrylic paint, and some black acrylic paint. I made stencils with my Cricut for the engraved design.
To attach the ribbon, I used a sawtooth picture hanger. I drilled small holes into the medal and secured it with earring-making studs and glue.
For Will's shirt, I used numerous colors of iron-on material.
I cut out each color layer with my Cricut.
Once the iron-ons were finished, I ironed the layers on top of each other in the appropriate order.
